In job interview or when you are trying to plan your business, often the question is: How do you see yourself in 5, 10 or 20 years. This weekend I was applying for a course, and this question came out.
It’s difficult to imagine how will be your life in 5, 10 or 20 years. Because there are factors that you can’t control. I guess the question would be how would you like your life to be; however, is a pointless question as the answer is just a wish.
I wonder if any Tesco cashier, 20 years ago, would have expected to be replaced by one of those please-place-the-item-in-the-bagging-area-machines?
The world changes, and we adopt them
If they asked me 20 years ago, I would totally have said flying cars. But instead we have pocket computers, we are obsessed with ourselves (selfies and Instagram). Jobs that we never imagine, YouTubers and influencers.
The question is: How do you imagine the world in 5, 10 or 20 years? And how do you see yourself evolving with it?
I think the world is going towards smart machines, which we’ll all have to learn and evolve our relationship with them. I also believe that we’ll have to change a lot on the environment and sustainability. And the economy, politics will also have to evolve, as I see them getting more and more obsolete.
For that reason, I think companies will have to keep an eye close to change and be able to embrace those changes if they don’t want to end up like Kodak.
